Astor House Hotel

i booked 2 rooms at the Hotel, when we arrived they told us that they can only find one booking. they then said that they will give us another room at the same rate CTRIP gives us. i accepted adn the next morning they wanted to charge us for breakfast, which i told them was supposed to be included in the price.
I wen to reception and showed them the confirmantion of my booking from Ctrip and it was only after we argued for 20 minutes that they agreed to give the breakast for free. they however still did not give us the same price fro the room as what CTRIP confirmed at.
I will not be staying at this hotel again.... the food is also not up to standard, so be careful.

Great location but dont expect modern perfection as this is an old, but historically interesting, hotel. We had a room on the 6th floor so although small windows we could see the Bund and the river. Bathroom good and main observation is that the carpets throughout need replacement. Internet free in lobby and bar but have to pay to use in room - not very good. We would return.

The location is good, but the noise from the traffic outside the hotel is horrendous. The restaurant prices are extortionist. Will not stay there again.

a bit shabby but clean room; free Wi-Fi from an unknown source; nice view on the Russian consulate and the river (from room no. 502)

going back in time! rooms really big and location is excellent a few min to The Bund, a train ticke office a few steps from the hotel, and for the price you can not beat it. staff very helpfull

If you visit Shanghai, you definitely should stay in Astor House. The Atmosphere in this historic hotel is unbeatable. The price is also reasonable for the location just a few minutes to walk to the famous Bund.

My favorite Shanghai hotel, hands down, even though I know objectively that there are many, many hotels in every part of the city with better beds, better staff, better amenities... but nothing beats atmosphere, and the AH has that in spades. I hope they never do a full-scale renovation because I just love the old-world slightly down-at-the-heel charm of this place. I give it a 5 for ambiance.

The hotel offers a sense of old shanghai, with large clean room and beds. I like the classical furniture very much.

The hotel enjoys a long history, reflecting the 1930s and 40s old shanghai sense and style. Staff are professional and helpful, and the price is quite acceptable. Very good!
