The hotel is a refreshing change from the 4/5 star monster hotel factories which you usually find in the big Chinese cities. The wooden construction with its cozy courtyards including fish ponds and screaky swings is what you might expect from a place like Lijiang. The rooms in the older part of the hotel are decent, but quite standard. We were upgraded to a 5-star room in the newly build section. The facilities are good, with exception of some problems with the bathroom. But I would rate the hotel a 6 star in terms of atmosphere and design. The rooms are spacious and decorated from the heart. The unique sunroof in the doorless bathroom must be my favorite making you feel that you are standing outside. The manager explained that they tried to achieve the feeling of freedom and leisure, which I did feel. It's clearly not a five-star hotel, but the service level is good, in particular from the management team, who will take any comment very seriously and do their best to make you feel comfortable. This is why I felt welcomed in the hotel, and my stay actually felt like a short honeymoon. Certainly a place to consider, if you are looking for comfort in a romantic setting.
