I booked the Greenlake View hotel for 3 nights during the Spring Festival holiday and was very impressed. As a former resident of Kunming, I knew I wanted to stay close to Green Lake Park -- but other hotels nearby are either (1) very expensive or (2) dingy. This hotel is clean and comfortable, with spotless bathrooms, quality towels and other amenities, for around the same price as doubles in some of the dingy backpacker establishments. Plus it really does have a great view. But the whole reason you're in Yunnan is to get OUTSIDE your hotel right?
The place is perfectly located, a 2 minute walk from Green Lake Park and 10 minutes from the great cafes on Wenlin Jie, or, in the other direction, Yuantong Temple. Another huge benefit is its location at the intersection of two of Kunming's major roads - Renmin Lu (heads to the West Hills and also the West long distance bus station for travel to Dali / Lijiang and etc) and Dongfeng Xi Lu -- where you can catch bus 10 north to the university district and the Golden Temple - or south to the Nordica / Loft art district at the Bai Yao Chang stop.
