Merchant Marco Hotel

After browsing the Internet for days, settled on Merchant Marco due to its location and a special deal. The hotel is indeed well positioned, 5 minutes walk from the lake. Don't be fooled into thinking you can walk to it from the railway station easily. I gave up after walking for 70 minutes and got a taxi. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful. They did try to charge me a deposit on arrival which was 50% more than the full price of my stay, but a sharp refusal solved that small issue. The room was large and clean, and the bed comfortable. If I was going back to Hangzhou, I would stay away from the city, further around the lake, as the city is VERY busy with both people and traffic and the part of the lake nearby is commercialised. Having said that, I paid 918RMB for 2 nights, and the hotel rate on arrival was around 1300RMB per night, so a good deal was had.

hotel is in very good locatoin , shopping place and west lake is in walking distance, hotel staff are very polite .

Very convenient location near West lake, friendly and professional staff at both reception and in restaurant , nice room, panoramic view restaurant, wide choice breakfast (european & chinese). Free breakfast for one person (had to pay for second breakfast but worth the price given the wide choice and good service). Fresh fruit in the room every day. Would certainly recommend Merchant Marco Hotel to anyone visiting Hangzhou, a very nice China city with many sight seing sites.Cons:Chargable internet at business centre as I did not brought my laptop as travelling 22 days across China.Inconvenient opening hours,should be 24 hours service

Breakfast has things eatable for the foreigners. Hotel location is good. 10 minutes walk to West lake. Rooms are clean and quiet.

This was my first trip to Hangzhou and after reading the positive review of Merchant Marco I decided to stay here over my birthday together with my wife and daughter. We booked a standard room and were surprised to have a spacious room with a west lake view. I got a nice suprise from the hotel when they delivered us a cake after we had check-in, I supposed they got to know from my passport that it was my birthday.
Overall the location is good and convenience to walk to to the west lake and nearby shopping malls.

I enjoyed a lot the time in this Hotel. The level is very high and all was perfect. If I come again to Hangzhou, I will come back hier.
It was a little sin, that you have to pay 20 Yuan each day for Internet. I know, it's cheap, but you have to call to the reception each time and there is no reason that you must pay extra money for that.

For first timers in Hangzhou, you might want to stay somewhere close to West Lake but also still close to downtown and commercial area. If that's what you want, this hotel is a perfect choice. It's just a 10 minute walk from the lake and less than 10 minutes by taxi to Wulin Square and all the big shopping malls.

Very nice cafe for breakfast on the 17th floor overlooking West Lake. We booked 2 rooms, one with a West Lake view. Rooms are nicer with the view, of course, but comfortable either way. All the necessary amenities. Service is good and the staff who speak English are very helpful.

Apple and Cherry they are sooo kind and polite ..They give us all information we need about the city and the places we can visit..
and every thing that we need..

Unexpectedly, I got a free upgrade from lake-view room to executive lake-view room. The room was spacious and clean. The major plus is the buffet.
